Jobs Outlook

TweetI’m as perplexed as anyone by the lack of focus among Democrats running for office this election. It starts at the top, with a White House that has been unable to produce a coherent election message. It ought to be easy, especially for as gifted an orator as Obama, but he’s been bizarrely unable to connect with voters this time around. The message should be simple: we have enormous challenges as a nation, but when the going gets tough we Americans have always risen to the occasion, and here’s what we need to do. And then lay out an ambitious agenda and keep hammering it home and criticizing those who stand in the way as the obstructionists they are. But we haven’t heard anything of the sort. Somehow, this administration has never managed to figure out that it’s jobs, stupid; instead it has flitted from one subject to the next, hoping something works, and praying that the economy will respond before it’s too late. It’s too late. Republicans have done absolutely nothing to earn our trust, but given the inability of the Democrats to use their power effectively, the other party is the only alternative, and it looks as though they will gain significantly across the board.

Of all this talk about how the GOP is going to win Big this Nov. it is still just Speculation.
I think that there is still plenty of time for the Dems to turn the polls around. Maybe the strategy is to wait till Oct. to come out with an ambitious policy announcement so that the GOP and FOX will have little time to attack it.
Whatever happens between now and then I hope that the people are smart enough to remember that the GOP got us into this mess. Their strategy to get us out of this seems to be to cut social services and programs, reduce environmental restrictions, cut banking restrictions, expand NAFTA type policies that send our jobs overseas, continue with attacks on personal liberties, and further cut taxes for the Rich, (basically the same policies that got us in this mess).
I’m also worried that they will get us into another unfunded War, (Iran, Pakistan, N.Korea, or any other country that they don’t like or want the resources of).
Why are you surprised? The Demo’s will emplod as they always do because of the built in greed of thier do good false faces. I wonder why nobody looks at the healthcare bill and doesnot say oh we shot ourselves in the foot this time. We gave the Insurance Companies a free hand to rob the citizens of the US or go to jail. GO TO JAIL> that is a problem with a lot of people and no one understands that the American people will not stand for that. This would not be the problem if it was a government program and run by the government BUT it was sold out to the Insurance companies. This is why the People are MAD as HELL and will not take any more. to quote a old line.
I agree that the Healthcare Bill we ended up with was not the Healthcare Bill we wanted. We (Liberals and Progressives) wanted a “Universal” Healthcare Bill, but with the cost of the two wars that the Shrub and Dick got us into and the Banking fiasco we just couldn’t get enough support in Congress to pass it. I still think that we needed Something to start with so that we can Fix the problems with it instead of just scrapping the whole thing.
Wow, we almost agree on something. I, too, am upset about the lack of a public option but Fred, it was the GOP Senators that did the selling out to the insurance companies. The House bill actually had a public option. Even so, the final bill does permit the creation of nonprofit private insurance cooperatives to get some competition.
You’re upset at the wrong folks. Go get the REAL bad guys.
Could not get enough support in congress? You libs had an overwhelming majority in both houses, it sounded like they wanted bipartisan support so they wouldn’t have to bear the blame for the long arm of Big Bro reaching down all of our wive’s and daughter’s pants.
You’re a pretty sick puppy Chadd with your perverse view of things.
Besides that, you have either been living with blinders on or actually know better and just throwing that stuff around that my horses leave behind after they eat. It’s not as though it has been a big secret that the GOP in the Senate was and continues to be obstructionists with the filabuster.
While all of us would think that 60-40 is an overwwhelming majority, it seems it is not in the US Senate. What was needed was not bipartisan support but any support, period. If it were not for Sen. Snowe, the bill would have never even gone to the floor for debate but end the end not a singe GOP Senator voted for the bill.
A bad bill is a BAD bill, This LAW now is a bad LAW. ARE people on welfare required to buy health insurance out of the welfare checks or unemployment checks they get. A family of three or four with the father just working a regular job at a small company that does not or will not be required to furnish health insurance will have to go out and find this on his own from the vulturers waiting to sell them a family plan that could take a fourth of his income if he or she is just makeing ends meet. That is the real world. Unless the government wants to take the bull by the horns and take it all on (hospitals, doctors) and get the private sector out. The problem can not be solved. If you are not old enough to remember before the sugar from uncle sam got in to the medical business and wanted all the costs explained to the penny, a room was $30/day and you had people that worked for free in hospitals.
I do not think that will happen. To much money is being made no matter how much the insurance companies cry they still want to drink from the Gov. well.
Fred, Where do you get your information? Low income families are currently eligible for Medicaid and that will not change. There will be tax credits for the middle class. It would really be great if you got yourself just a bit informed on a topic before going off the deep end. Here is a site that describes in detail what is in the law:
http://www.healthcare.gov
So, how far back was it only $30/day for a hospital room? For what it is worth, $30 in 1950 would be $265 today, accounting for inflation. And people working for free? Are you talking about Candy Stripers?
Tax credits , if you do not have any money you cannot eat tax credits.
1964 I believe was the year. and my first born was in 1969 at a total cost , doctor , hospital three days because wife almost died cost total of under $1500. I paid cash so I know. we saved it before birth.
Fred, you sure flit faster than a butterfly. You make a bunch of untrue and outrageous statements. I respond to them, telling you that you are wrong, you don’t read my entire post but pick out two words and make another silly statement. Actually, they can eat tax credits and I’m not even going to waste my telling you why. As someone else said just the other day: “I can see that attempting to debate you is useless and a waste of time”.
We do have something in common. My first was also born in 1969. I’m not as good as you at remembering the cost, though. By the way, $1500 in 1964 is equal to $10,300 today…..
But I as A YOUNG man was able to save up that amont before the birth myself. A young person today making what I was making then and what my wife was making then would have a hell of a time saving 10300 dollars today. Things were different I admit but, You can play with the math all you want but that dog won’t hunt.
Tax credits do not pay bills until you file for them. got it, you got to go get it first. Cash is still King. Cash in HAND. That is the problem with your side it is always betting on the come rather then on the here and now. Show me how to eat that Tax credit before you get it. Show me how to pay bills before you get it.
I wasn’t playing with math, I was just giving you perspective. I agree with you in terms of incomes. Only the rich are getting richer. This just didn’t happen in the last two years.
Actually, tax credits do pay bills before you file. You simply have less taxes taken out of your paycheck. Remember, we are not talking about the poor, we are talking about folks that are paying taxes today. If they have health insurance today, they are paying premiums. If they don’t have insurance, they are not getting care or they are going bankrupt if they get really sick or injured.
Depending on the type of insurance they have they could still go bankrupt. Insurance companies look for every loophole to get out of paying , been there done that. In a perfect world , with insurance companies that really cared about paying claims in a timely manor and not hiding behind clause after subclause things would be a little better. In the real world if you buy insurance on your own you really need a lawyer to review the policy to see if you are in fact covered and what your not covered for and your exposure really is in case you use your insurance.
Each state is different with its own rules and regulations for insurance companies. Some insurance will not cover you in other states , the rules and regulations are many.
I agree with you 100%.
