Going, Going, Gone

The government announced last week that three-quarters of the oil spewed from BP’s Deepwater Horizon leak had already vanished. Great news, right? Maybe the damage wouldn’t be so bad, after all. Except that numerous experts from outside the administration, which underplayed the severity of the leak from the beginning, believe that these optimistic numbers woefully underestimate the amount of oil still lurking beneath the surface. Massive amounts of chemical dispersants created huge columns of undersea oil, suspended in tiny droplets, which still may be wreaking havoc on the undersea ecology, the full extent of which may not be known for decades. Fish oil could take on a whole new meaning in the coming years.

Apparently they want us to believe some fantasy that there are good petroleum fairies who miraculously come when no one is around and clean up BP’s mess for them.

Given their actions I suppose BP might believe that fairy tale themselves. It might go a long way towards explaining their lying numbers, over and over. If ever there was an occasion to DIS-trust AND verify, this would be it.

    The rest of us? No.

I know I stopped believing in fairy tales years and years ago. I have no interest in going backwards.

I keep seeing the BP commercials multiple times every day stating that they are cleaning Everything up “Good as New” and I am frankly Sick of the commercials. Then after the commercials the news will come on showing some press release where they state that nearly All the oil has been “recovered” or has somehow majically disappeared. I just wonder how many people actually believe them and who those people are?
