TweetThe New York Times has been running leaked information about the war in Afghanistan, and–surprise!–it’s not going as well as the administration would like you to believe. What a shock. The administration was quick to point out that none of the information contained in the leaks was exactly new, which is true. Critics of publishing the story repeated the old, tired line about demoralizing the troops. I’m guessing the troops already know.

This cartoon reminds me of Bill Mauldin’s World War II “Up Front” cartoons, about Joe and Willie. I once saw a movie, titled “Up Front,” on the same topic, about the war in Italy, north of Naples.
a standing army on one side in a foreign country, a fiercely determined guerrilla force on the other. ignorance of language culture society etc of each other, especially on the part of the (grunt) U-S-A. Part of the hundred year war theory of the gop. shades of Indochina. and that little baby had US military action from 1954-1975. 21 years. 10,000 days. that was not winnable; this is not winnable, although king georgie did proclaim victory, yet still he told us there was progress, bit by excruciating bit, inexorably to ultimate failure yet to be publicized. of course we could follow republican desires and nuke the planet. not until I finish building my starship.
