Sisyphus

TweetHere we go again. One more attempt at crafting a health care reform bill with the Republicans. The problem is that the GOP wants nothing to do with the main ideas the Democrats have put forth. Part of it is ideological–a reflexive rejection of anything but market-driven health care, (which has dismally failed either to provide for everyone or to control costs) and part is a reflexive desire to defeat Obama at all costs. The Republican idea of bipartisanship seems to be do it my way or not at all. We no longer have a legislative body in Washington capable of the compromises necessary to pass major legislation. This is a high-risk move on Obama’s part; if he fails to get anything, and the public blames him rather than the GOP (which has successfully outmaneuvered and out-communicated him so far), he can kiss his entire agenda goodbye, as well as the Congressional majority in November. If, on the other hand, he is able to show the Republicans for the obstructionists they are, or is able to persuade the members of his own party to develop backbones and pass something, he might yet have the last laugh.

Being greedy and deceitful, Sisyphus deserved to spend eternity rolling the large rock up the hill. I see Obama’s travails more like those of Odysseus’ journey to return home after Troy. Let’s hope that he, too, successfully sails by the Sirens and the Scylla.
If this is such a great agenda I would think democrats would want to take all the credit. Why involve republicans at all. Most of us know national health care isn’t going to work as our friends in
Canada are finding out and democrats need someone to blame.
All the Canadians that I know, of which my cousin is one of them, tell me that their system is GREAT and they think that the US system is the worst possible system for a country with our level of economy.
“Most of us know national health care isn’t going to work as our friends in Canada are finding out”!
Where did you find this piece of fantasy?
Besides, what makes you think that the U.S. system does work, since we rank last among the developed countries in outcomes and spend almost 2 1/2 times per person than Canada does?
This should be a picture of Obama pushing the United States downhill into a sewer and the GOP blocking it.
The birth certificate is exactly where?
Willy,
Who cares, besides you and the other “birther” wackos, where the birth certificate is?
I would say a reaction was being sought after, and he got one. Can’t say I completely disagree with the first statement, though. Except I would add that the Repubs are resisting primarily for the sake of political advantage, rather than on principal. Much like the dems did in the latter part of the so-called “lost decade.”
P.S. Just in case I seem to fit the profile, I am NOT a birther.
I believe you and I’m not sure what the profile is, anyway, other than being in the class of conspiracy theorists.
I would have to also agree with your observation on the Repubs. I disagree on the downhill bit as we are already in the sewer after 8 years of GW. I’m not sure how you can go much lower than invading another country on false pretenses and approving/using torture.
