President Obama is expected to announce tomorrow night that he will be sending additional tens of thousands of troops to Afghanistan. If he buys into this conflict, like it or not, it will cease to be George W. Bush’s failure; it will become Obama’s war. Granted, the current occupant of the oval office was left with a seemingly impossible choice: abandon Afghanistan to the Taliban and risk it becoming an al Qaeda sanctuary once more, or hope that additional troops and a new strategy will stabilize a barely-governed country that appears to be hopelessly mired in sectarian violence and corruption. It appears that he chose the latter. Keep your fingers crossed.

On top of the human toll of our military personnel, another $30 billion added to the $1 trillion we’ve spent on these “wars”. To some, this is money well spent but it’s not ok to provide health care to all our citizens. It is truly mind-boggling, when you think about it.
To me it is truly mind-boggling that that some one can believe that it is not OK to provide health care to all our citizens. Obviously you are not Christian nor any religion that cares about all human beings. I am not religious myself but still care about the well being of my fellow human beings. I was born and raised in Europe (Ireland) and am shocked when I meet Americans with this this opinion. Its just not American. How were you raised?. Do you really only care only about yourself. Perhaps you are very wealthy and don’t see yourself getting into a situation where you might go bankrupt because of health problems
Sam, I think you mis-read my post, sorry if it is poorly worded. I am definitely for health care reform. I wasn’t referring to myself.
I think it is very, very, rare that anyone would be found who would not want health care for all, and that has no regard for the well being of their fellow citizens. However, such is a common accusation put forth by proponents of current health care reform towards those who oppose it. The debate is about what is currently being proposed as the way to health care for all, not whether or not all people should have health care.
But maybe I am just naive.
I certainly don’t think you are naive.
I also believe that the “let’s just start all over” business used by opponents is disingenuous at best.
However, if you were going to accomplish the goal of health care for all, what would your plan be?
