Harsh Interrogation

The spectacle of the GOP doing everything it possibly can to derail any inquiry into the interrogation practices of the Bush administration is truly stomach-churning. They bounce from denying that the things the Bush administration authorized were torture, to claiming that anything the president authorized was by definition legal, to claiming that torture worked to protect us, to simultaneously claiming that revealing the truth would imperil national security and demanding that everything be an open book, to claiming that everyone knew all about it anyway.
Meanwhile, the Obama administration, fearing that the partisan war any investigation and prosecution would likely produce will derail the president’s agenda, would just as soon the whole thing thing went away.
Sorry, folks, this is something we have to do. This country lost its ethical bearings after 9/11, and we must find out who did what and why. To sweep this dark chapter in our history under the rug, as tempting as that may be, would be the worst thing we could do. We have to know what happened, or we are forever at risk of repeating it in the future. If we truly are who we say we are as a nation, we must stand for those things we claim to believe in–and chief among them is the belief that only an open society unafraid of the truth can lead the way to a just and ethical world.

justice, law, the Constitution. the standing of USA on the world stage. credibility. ‘We are a nation of laws.’ The moral high ground. The 20th century saw a number of war criminals, war profiteers, vicious crimes against humanity (Turkey, Germany, Russia, East Germany, Roumania, Rwanda, Sudan, Eritrea, Cambodia, Serbia, etc, etc, etc, around the globe). Crimes against humanity have been revealed and punished harshly. Many times other countries took the leads to bring some semblance of justice and relief to and for the people. Cheney/Rove et al continue to rub our faces in their illicit activities. Obama wants to look forward. However, no one can not look back, can not forget, what has occurred, the horrific actions for their personal gain and pleasure. Bush did not see a bridge he would not destroy. Cheney has demonstrated tremendous callousness to the people, and other animals, of this planet. Bush/Cheney/Rove/Rumsfeld reduced our Constitution to toilet paper. Still, the grossly shrunken gop sews tremendous fear and divisiveness. They have not met and created a conspiracy of opposition they did not like. They are vile and hateful in that respect. We have had 8 years of an AWOL congress that could not meet the paltry 2 days a week scheduled. 8 years of kowtowing to the white house. Even 2 years of Democrat majority was the same as before. Pelosi and Reid have been 2 of the weakest lamest leaders seen in congress times the past 50+ years. As Joy Behar said on Real Time 16 months ago with regards congress, ‘they are pussies. they haven’t the balls to do their jobs.’ right on. Justice is not a distraction from the many tasks Obama is striving to achieve. There are many people on many teams with many jobs. It is silly to figure the administration can do but one task at a time. The many cabinet members have many people to perform those many and myriad tasks. They must do so. Forthright. Thank you.
Would have been a really good one, except the interrogator should be lady justice, or someone besides a donk. Since they also knew about what was going on, I don’t think they have the authority to be in that position.
