We seem to live in two completely separate worlds these days–the one inhabited by most of us and the one peopled by the right-wing bloviators. In the first one, Obama is still in the honeymoon period, feeling his way, creating the tenor of his presidency, trying his best to address the many complex issues of the day, with some successes and some failures. I’m not happy with the way his administration has addressed the economic crisis, and I wonder if he was perhaps too timid in his European trip. That said, in this world, it is simply too soon to assess his effectiveness. In the other world, the world of the perpetually enraged shouting heads, everything he does is an unparalleled catastrophe, a signal failure of will, imagination, philosophy and intelligence, devoid of any redeeming qualities.

  1. Jeremy Stevens says:

Poor Ed! You’ve got your proportions wrong if you think YOU are in the majority, as your note on this cartoon asserts. Apparently you’ve missed the ratings listings where the network you mock, FOX, bests all the rest combined. And speaking of ratings, how’s the newspaper business these days? Thank God for websites, huh?

  2. Harry Doby says:

Ed, you’re absolutely correct. While the majority of us believe in facing reality, and dealing with it, guys like Jeremy Stevens aren’t familiar with the facts, it seems.

His one data point — Faux News out rates “All the rest” — is as feeble as his contention that those of us supporting Obama are not the majority. In 5 minutes of Googling, both of Mr. Stevens delusions are pierced:

From [http://www.mediapost.com/publications/?fa=Articles.showArticle&art_aid=103890 MediaPost] comes the explanation that FOX News averages 2.25 million prime time viewers. That’s some majority in a nation of more than 300 million. But it does out rate two other cable channels… big whoopee!

The other inconvenient fact for Mr. Stevens is this latest poll

In a new Public Strategies Inc./POLITICO national survey of 1,000 registered voters, Obama outdistances figures on both the left and the right in earning the public’s trust, with two-thirds of respondents saying they trust the president “to identify the right solutions to the problems we face as a nation.”

Of those who said they trust the president, 31 percent said they trust him “a great deal.” An additional 35 percent said they have “some” trust that Obama will find the correct solution. Thirty-one percent said they trust Obama either “not very much” or “not at all.”

Voters were asked the same question of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Republican Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, former Massachusetts Republican Gov. Mitt Romney, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh and the two major political parties. Among those choices, only the Democratic Party was trusted to find the right solutions by a majority of voters, 52 percent to 40 percent. Forty percent of those surveyed said they trusted the Republican Party, compared with 54 percent who did not trust the GOP.

    Poor Ed, indeed!

Pushing all that left wing propaganda and ‘us vs. them’ mentality must be tiresome!
